I feel people have forgotten that what Pat did in the first bad buddy Our Skyy episode was undeniably shitty and was never actually properly resolved because they were too stressed and preoccupied getting the consent from Phupha for the play.

You cannot tell me Pran wasn’t hurt by the whole situation. Aside from the ‘drunk words speak sober thoughts’ of it all, Pat still left him without proper explanation, spent the night getting drunk with his friends, ignored all his worried calls and texts, and then brought it up AGAIN in the last episode when they fought. Everything about that was so unlike bbs Pat and I was upset it was so quickly brushed past as it clearly drudged up all of Pran’s insecurities.

In fact a lot of Pat’s actions were ooc for me - entertaining the idea that he drunkenly slept with Phupha when he’s the most loyal down bad character ever, cowardly running away and twisting his ankle which almost ruined Phupha’s effort to find the others, being so blasé about finding Pran lost in a dangerous forest in general, and being extra himbo-like when we’re talking about a confident assertive guy who got shot protecting friends and who is super intelligent.

So I’m finding it bizarre that it’s Pran taking the heat when his characterisation was so spot on; he’s grown and changed since we last saw him and he’s more open to talking about his insecurities, he told Pat that he was stressed and that overwhelmed him but admitted all he wanted to do was watch the stars and play in the waterfall with Pat, he recognised that Pat didn’t mean to hurt him but that his feelings were still valid and he allowed him to help even though he was trying to prove to himself that he could do it alone, and he was kind and friendly to Tian and Phupha and empathised with their struggles as individuals and in their relationship.

Overall I wasn’t keen on the Our Skyy episodes but I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece and Pat wasn’t completely ruined as a character for me to love and enjoy him and patpran’s relationship.

thinking about how the rooftop kiss was filmed in one take and how ohm felt that pat needed to cry during that scene and how nanon continued to cry afterwards and feeling like i need to curl into a ball.

does it ever actually just hit you. like. Hit you hit you. how much goddamn love and care and effort went into telling this story. it’s not just “ohm and nanon are good actors” it’s “ohm and nanon have both said they’ve never worked so hard at delivering a role before”.

it’s the entire cast saying this series will be one of their most cherished experiences for life. it’s p’aof and the soonvijarn group analyzing details after every episode and discussing their own queer experiences in relation to it. it’s the bts scenes full of laughter, the improvised phone call lines and ketchup kiss. it’s not just ohm and nanon giving each other little pecks behind the scenes it’s jimmy and drake and all the others kissing each other and being so touchy with each other too. it’s the way they all hang off the director and hug and kiss p’aof. it’s p’aof saying during rain at the beach that that’s the price to make something beautiful and how that message can be applied to the entire show as a whole. it’s ohm’s pride in being able to play thai xylophone on screen. it’s nanon saying “i just know that i love you”. it’s jimmy saying he wanted to cry after filming the ep5 fight scene and p'aof being proud of the way all their performances built off each other to make it an award-winning scene.

the metaphors….the thought and intention behind every detail….like i want to sit here and cry about it because it feels like people just dont DO that anymore - put that much effort into something because they love what they’re creating. and like. it all comes through…it all reflects into what’s shown on screen. and then you see it reflected again through the people that watch it and experience it and it makes the love grow that much more

Whilst the BL fandom isn’t particularly huge on tumblr, its much easier to write out more comprehensive and detailed thoughts about serious subjects here than on twitter, and I think today that is needed.

I’m pretty disappointed that the one main takeaway from Aof, Professor Dew, Pompam and Nanon’s discussion of BL being a soft power for Thailand and now having an impact on Thai culture, is that Nanon is heterosexual. It’s pretty ridiculous if I’m being honest.

The talk was just 30 minutes long and yet was incredibly in depth. We were being told the perspectives of an academic, an openly gay Thai director and a well known actor who has acted in a BL.

Nanon was not there to represent the LGBTQ community nor was he talking on their behalf; his answers were from the perspective of a young Thai actor who has grown up during the height of BL popularity and stared in an acclaimed BL which gained international attention this past year.

The four men covered topics such as making BLs more inclusive, it’s affect on lgbtq awareness in Thailand (a pretty conservative country with a ban on gay marriage) and personal stories told to them by people who’s lives have been affected by them.

I’m still kinda shocked Nanon got so much hate for it on Twitter, which sadly took away from the importance of the conversation. I think it’s pretty common knowledge that many BL actors will not be members of the LGBTQ community. Many of them maintain ambiguity to retain fans, many don’t come out because of the fear it could ruin their career. I think Nanon was trying to be as honest as possible, appreciating fans’ love of his friendship with Ohm and saying that he hopes he has provided them some sort of representation and comfort even though he is straight. I think it’s fair to say we’d all like more queer actors to take on queer roles, but that’s not always the reality and many people praised Nanon at the time of Bad Buddy’s airing for his relatable and respectful portrayal of Pran without knowing how he himself identified.

constantly thinking about how pat and pran’s relationship is characterised as “ride or die” in the sense that it is unshakeable, rock solid and we only realized it when the series ended… most of us (me) have written litanies about how pat said “i’m in” in episode 5 (4/4) and never looked back, but today i’m also thinking about how pran, whose defining feature was fear and hesitation, also said “i’m in” in episode 7 (4/4) and never looked back either. we didn’t know it because we were all white-knuckled for the token last-minute separation, we all assumed pran’s fear would resurface, but it actually never did. the bet really was for pran to make this decision but once he made it, he made it with as much certainty as pat did and he fought tooth and nail for it, because him and pat are equal in everything, including dedication. we’ve made a big deal of pran’s silent i love yous, but when push came to shove he took his hits loudly without ever changing his mind. you never leave me, you always fight alongside me.
